Can we talk about this for a moment. Just a moment? Can we talk about howtired River looks in that last GIF because….Because she’s been with The Doctor her whole life and longer now, she’s walked along his trail of tears with him longer then any other person ever has, and she’s seen him broken and she’s seen him sad, she’s seen him furious, and happy, and loving, and alive, and dieing on the inside, and more then anything she’s seen him lose. And she’s lost with him, her parents, her life, her friends, each other. And she looks down at Clara, bright eyed impossible Clara who’s just barely getting to know him, just barely starting to understand, but who knows how much good he does, how many lives he’s touched and victories he’s won and days he’s saved, even when he doesn’t know it himself. She knows he has to come back, she knows the universe needs him, and for the longest time, he’s needed her, but not anymore, because he has to say goodbye and she has to let go. She can’t do it anymore, after everything she simply doesn’t have anything left to give. She’s an echo on a computer on a planet in the deep of space a million miles away, and if she could give a little more, if she could go in Clara’s place, if she could save her Doctor, she would in a heart beat. But she can’t. So she looks so tired down at Clara and nods, tells her she can do it. She can save him. Because River can’t anymore, and The Doctor can save all the universe, but not without someone to save him in turn. And she can’t be that someone anymore, and it kills her inside.
